funkUs Thursday November 17th, 2005 The Peacock Room (www.thepeacockroom.com) Winter Park, Orlando, FL
The
purveyors of flavour rock seemed to fit right in on their 1st
performance @ The Peacock Room. The ecclectic art on the walls
melded perfectly with the ecclectic members of the group known as
funkUs (www.funkus.com) The small
"f" down plays the funk as they are so much more than a funk
band. The big "U" focUses our attention on the community brought
together by music. Don't be scared - they're a jam band.
Yes. The girls at the show will most likely not own a
razor. Yes. A song can go on for 10 minutes. But that's a
good thing when you don't want it to end. Ans with four very
talented musicians @ the helm, funkUs won't steer you wrong.
Drummer Adam FreeMan effortlellly floated over his drums. John
"Mojo" Jones looked unually lucid (having been unlucid with him myself
@ a previous concert). Goes to show the man can play either way
and he and his bass bounced and swayed all night. His quirky
vocal additives are just one more spice added to the over all flavour
of rock funkUs consistently serves up.
Dave "The Cat" Man's guitar licks are clean and impressive. Singer Ron Betts (www.upwithpeople.org)
has the rare ability to endear a crowd to him. He's as comfortable at
venues like the Hard Rock as he is in the more intimate performance
venues around central Florida. I usually tell musicians to just
stop blabbing and get to the music but Mr. Betts has that unique and
fortunate blessing of being an entraling storyteller, accomplished
musican, and one heck of a vocalist.
funkUs is one of those bands that you wish had a larger draw. In fact with their talent and appeal, they should.
Thanks for the T-Shirts and Sticker guys!!
