A MESSAGE FROM THE BAND:
We used to keep track of our set lists, listed here, but officially abandoned this practice after playing a definitive 2 1/2 hour set on October 8th, 2005 during the DeLand Original Music Festival, a pivotal performance defining the essense of the first incarnation of funkUs to its core. Having so reached this sort of musical epiphany, we felt it time to focus fully on future growth and leave the past in the past until someone else might have the gumption to continue maintaining any archival data, if our humble offerings be deemed so worthy. (In other words, it's just too darn hard for us to keep up with this stuff! Kudos to all who do manage to follow bands so closely...) For our historical purposes, however, live shows will always be available on-line at The Internet Archive featuring past funkUs shows from 2001 onwards.

Feel free to browse our first seven years of existance as a band and share some funki memories. Enjoy!
NOTE: U.f.O.'s - Unidentified funkUs Originals.

*U.f.O.'s.
$w/ June Bateman Watts on vocals.
$$Mohave's Bing Futch on vocals.
#Ron only, with help.
Notes - The end of an era and the beginning of a new on one spectacular night, officially declared by all in the band as the best funkUs set to date. Clocking in at 2 and a half hours long, the funkUs jam at the end of the fest is fast becoming a DOMF tradition! With the totally unexpected sit-ins from June Watts, widow of Noble "Thin Man" Watts, we were all treated to some powerful blues onstage and off. Bing Futch from Mohave fit in his "Twisted Blues" (a la last year!), and the room was FULL of fans and musicians from the day's festivities all night long. This is easily the most fun we've had all year and a huge kudos goes to Phil and Dana and everyone at The Songwriters Showcases of America for another fun year. See you next year!

Saturday, October 1st, 2005 - Java Junction - Clearwater, FL
with Weaksauce

set list lost...

Notes - This was an interesting, experimental journey to the coast playing for another band's audience. Weaksauce is a rockin' young ska-influenced band with a huge teenage following, and though we may have been a little out of place with our expectations and memories of the hula hoop madness, we played a strong set that saw some appreciative faces out there, as well as some of our West Coast funki faithful. Most were just waiting for their band to start, and when they did, the club transformed. It was interesting to displace ourselves like that, and time will tell if it worked, I suppose. Keep on truckin'!

Friday, September 30th, 2005 - Kitty O'Shea's

set lists lost...

Saturday, September 24th, 2005 - Scruffy Murphy's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing>Cardova, Icarus*, Love Comes Easy*, Bonnie Lopez*, FYF*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, The Leader, Steal My Kisses, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin'.

Set Two: Look-A-Py-Py, Everbody's Right*, Black Gang Coffee, Roses are Free, The Mountain Song*, Smiley Garcia*, Y.E.M. (Part II)>First Tube>Hot Tamales Baby Jam>I Wanna Be Sedated, What's Wrong With You*$.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron only w/ help.
Notes - Not quite as expected, the last bash at Scruffy's went out with a whisper rather than the bang we were hoping for. Ah, well... we'll be looking forward to what Breda and company have in store for us next!

Saturday, September 17th, 2005 -
Jambando @ Hard Rock Live, Universal Studios, CityWalk
with Cadillac Recipe, The Burnin' Smyrnans & Big Meat

Set: Out There*, Release Me*, FYF*, Bonnie Lopez*, Everybody's Right*, The Mountain Song*, Smiley Garcia*$, Sleep*.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron breaks a string.
Notes - The core 4 return for our TENTH Hard Rock Live appearance!! That's TEN, BABY!!! It was another joyous occasion with friends and fans abounding and more funki in the room than we can remember! Thanks, all!! It was great fun seeing everyone in the crowd from as far as Daytona to the West Coast and even some S. Florida funki came up to surprise us! It was a real treat to see many of the Jambando bands not scheduled there to support, as well. Newcomers, the very funky and fun Big Meat (I LOVE ME SOME BIG MEAT!!) and the reggae influences of The Burnin' Smyrnans, really set a high standard for freshmen appearances with energy and enthusiasm not seen in a long while. Plus, both bands are just AWESOME with some great original tunes! We had a fun set, as well, playing some funki favorites to a spirited reception full of dancing, and Cadillac Recipe had them dancing ON the stage with their groovy funk. What a crazy night, eh? Another fine Jambando...

Saturday, September 10th, 2005 -
Beachside Live Music Festival @ The Peabody Auditorium
AND The Beachside Live After Party @ Tir na nOg - Daytona Beach, FL
with The Delusionaires, Rickey Dickens, The SSA's Phil Weidner & The Goldminers

Set One @ The Peabody Auditorium: Mellow*, Sleep*, Release Me*, Everybody's Right*, FYF*, Out There*.

Sets Two & Three @ Tir na nOg: set lists lost...

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Well, somehow The core 4 managed to have one of the best and absolute worst gigs in their careers on the same day! First, with Ophelia looming off the coast, our friends in The Songwriters Showcases of America made the smart call and moved the show indoors at the readily available Peabody Auditorium. Unfortunately, moving from the ideally located and historic Bandshell, the original location of the festival, proved a disaster for the attendance plus the logistics and environment in the auditorium had us thinking about our high school talent shows. Kudos to Phil, Dana and The SSA for giving it their best and continually providing outlets for original music, even though they've seen better days. Keep it up, guys! Fortunately, we helped things out for festival-goers by throwing the official After-Party at Tir's which turned into a fabulous show full of great music. When we arrived, we were suprised to find another band setting up before us, but they seemed a nice bunch and we appreciated the spirit, so why not? We suddenly had an opening act, The Delusionaires also from Orlando, and they were just awesome bringing their rockin' retro lounge/punk and energy to the show. Great stuff! Then, we talked our friend Rickey Dickens onto the stage to play some original acoustic material as we set up, including a great "Wine, Whiskey & Weed", and then joined him to electrify his acoustic blues for another fun moment. The audience was great, full of happy faces (and some new funki!) and dancing ensued throughout our sets, (thanks for sharing the moments and magic, Kris and Michele!), during which, we gave Beachside Live organizer, Phil Weidner, a chance to relax and blow off some steam with some blazing harmonica blues, too. We were even surprised to see Jeffro, RasTrent & Steph and other familiar Orlando faces in the crowd, and the final treat was when we let our friends The Goldminers take over to blow the roof off the joint with their original rockin' country which peaked when Ron joined them for a rousing version of "The Bend". You can't plan nights like this... you can only go with them.

Thursday, September 1st, 2005 - WPRK 91.5FM - Rollins College, Winter Park, FL

Songs played on air: Icarus*, The Mountain Song*$, Sleep*, Whatever*, Smiley Garcia*, Everybody's Right*, FYF*, I Got*.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron changes a string, joins in halfway.
Notes - (I think I got the set list right... only Russell knows for sure!) The core 4 was invited back to WPRK 91.5FM for another continuous broadcast marathon. No records being broken this time, so it was for the pure fun of it all, and fun it was as we rejoined our friend and Guiness Book record holder Dave Plotkin along with a studio audience onhand for claps and cheers between songs, (a welcome change from previous appearances!) Kudos to local music affectionado Katie Ball for setting us up. We were there when the record was broken for the first marathon and participated on the opening day of this marathon, happy to continuously show our support for our favorite radio station. Let's do it again next year!

Saturday, August 27th, 2005 - Scruffy Murphy's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Jump Jive & Wail, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing>Cardova, Mellow*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Release Me*, Smiley Garcia*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Strobe Light*, Hit the Bricks*, Black Gang Coffee, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin'.

Set Two: Roll*, Bonnie Lopez*, Sleep*, Everbody's Right*, Out There*, The Mountain Song*, Roses are Free, FYF*, I Got*, Sweet Sixteen, Whatever*, I Wanna Be Sedated, What's Wrong With You*$.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron only w/ help.
Notes - Ahh... that's more like it! This was a great show for The core 4 downtown at a place where we can always be ourselves. It had also been a LONG while since we were here, (last played on 9/10/04 with TC), and we played with heart and fire... Literally! After talk of burning the place down in the first set, (because we've heard that Scruffy's is slated for demolition soon), we gave a good shot at it during breakdown when one of our tapestries caught fire! Lots of friends & longtime funki in the house and we noticed a few new faces getting into the music. Kudos to Pete and Bill back with their gear and Regan & Renee set the standard on the dance floor, paving the way for the spirited dancing all night long. You guys make this all just too much fun! Or was it the shots that kept magically appearing from Eric, Chris and Jen from the bar? Always a great time downtown at Scruffy's! We're REALLY gonna miss this place, but we look forward to doing it all again next month... while we still can!

Friday, August 26th, 2005 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Been Down So Long, Mellow*, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing>Cardova, Love Comes Easy*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, When the Circus Comes, Stir It Up, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Release Me*, What Would You Say.

Set Two: Roll*, Chicken Strut, The Leader$, Wolfman's Brother, Roses Are Free, Smiley Garcia*, Black Gang Coffee, How Blue Can You Get, Out There*, Name That Show*, Turn On Your Lovelight.

Set Three: Sleep*, Everybody's Right*, Red House, I Got*.

*U.f.O.'s.
$w/o Ron, changing a string.
Notes - Wow! This time around, it'd been 5 MONTHS since The core 4 played our home venue (last played on 3/18/05), and we hardly recognized the place! I knew we were in for an interesting night when we got a heart-felt request for "Brown Eyed Girl" before we even started. The kicker was the Mariah Carey and Carly Simon request we got while Ron changed a string. (Needless to say, every song after that was declared to be written by either Carly or Mariah.) Something was definitely different... Even Al noticed. Still, it's always great to see the Kitty family and crew and we'll be back to show this "new" crowd what funkUs is all about. It'll grow on them, too...

Saturday, August 13th, 2005 - Tir na nOg - Daytona Beach, FL

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Been Down So Long, Mellow*, Name That Show*, Chicken Strut, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Strobe Light*, FYF*, When the Circus Comes, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse>Sleep*, Shannon*, I Got*, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin'.

Set Two: Bonnie Lopez*, Black Gang Coffee, Roll*, Roses are Free (false start$), Roses are Free, Out There*, Everybody's Right*, The Mountain Song*, Smiley Garcia*, Release Me*, Burn One Down, How Blue Can You Get, Caldonia, Whatever*, What's Wrong With You*$$.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Dave forgot the lyrics! The audience was kind enough to remind him for the second take...
$$Ron only w/ help.
Notes - Part 2 of our "Coast 2 Coast CD Release Tour," The core 4 return to Daytona Beach (last played here on 10/4/04), spending some quality time with some of our favorite funki, (all of whom we don't get to see quite enough, you know?) What a party! We must've been having fun as our first set clocked in over an hour and a half! And thank goodness for a great crowd in the second set, for helping and allowing "take 2" of the new Ween cover. We couldn't have done it without you! Literally! This show also launched our "funkUs sings with the Irish" Pub Tour over the next couple months. Kudos to The Daytona funki and all their support, including James and Colleen hanging, dancing, clapping, hootin' and hollerin' all night long, and brother Sylvan, the Keeper of the Flame for generations. We love you guys! We must be doing something right over there. They even wrote about us in the paper! (Check it out!) Watch out for more East Coast dates as we continue our quest to conquer the I-4 corridor, coast to coast, baby!

Saturday, August 6th, 2005 - Java Junction - Clearwater, FL

Set One: Mellow*, Name That Show*, Love Comes Easy*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', FYF*, Smiley Garcia*, Born Under a Bad Sign, Hope*, Black Gang Coffee, Sleep*, Shannon*, I Got*, Drink Heavily*.

Set Two: Roll*, Strobe Light*, Release Me*, Bonnie Lopez*, Out There*, Hit the Bricks*, Everybody's Right*, The Mountain Song*, Run*, Icarus*, Whatever*, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin', What's Wrong With You*$.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron only w/ help.
Notes - Vacation's over, so the fun begins again for The core 4, kicking things off with a road gig at a great new venue, Part 1 of our "Coast 2 Coast CD Release Tour". On Dave's birthday, no less! Kudos to Ted Freed of Rising Jupiter and the kind owners of Java Junction, Clearwater's coolest, new listening room, for having us and helping us spread the funkUs along the West coast. What a great place! We were diggin' on the spirit of it all. The hula hoopers and twirlers were worth the trip alone, and the club's policy of "no covers" made for an interesting and fun challenge. Overall, we had a great time with the very appreciate crowd, old friends and new, including the ever-lovin' original funki, Bongo Willie and Alex, as well as Katrina the Dancing Queen with her Boca buddies. A tremendous amount of love in the room... We can't wait to play here again!

Saturday, June 25th, 2005 -
Jambando @ Hard Rock Live, Universal Studios, CityWalk
with Fresh Progression, The S.E.A.D., The Fat Americans & The Tony Hume Collaboration

Set: Whatever*, Release Me*, Smiley Garcia*$, Everybody's Right*, The Mountain Song*, Icarus*, Out There*, Sleep*.

*U.f.O.'s.
$a little technical trouble with Dave & Ron's guitars, ended early.
Notes - The core 4 return for our NINTH Hard Rock Live appearance and a record setting Jambando! "Free" of our new material, we brought out some older favorites, including a requested "The Mountain Song" by the "soul sistas" from the East Coast! Kudos to all the East Coast funki, old and new, who came out in droves for this show, as well as to the many familiar funki who were dancin' and groovin' through our entire set. Our buddy Tony Hume, calling himself The Tony Hume Collaboration, started things off acoustically with some interesting and cool sounds coming out of his guitar. Then The Fat Americans started up with their rockin' 60's meets the 90's vibe to an already growing crowd that found newcomers The S.E.A.D. ready with an amazing set. Comprised mainly of Daytona Beach area musicians, these cats can play! Tony entertained again during the break and we came on next and despite our troubles, throroughly enjoyed the energy and vibes coming from the impressive crowd. After Tony's last set, Fresh Progression took it home with a MOFRO-ish sounding set, complete with lap steel guitar, and rocked their fans hard. Great music all-around! Jambando does it again and again and again...

Saturday, May 21st, 2005 - Tanqueray's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Been Down So Long, Look-A-Py-Py, Out There*, Love Comes Easy*, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, When the Circus Comes, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', FYF*, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin'.

Set Two: Everybody's Right*, Bonnie Lopez*, Roll*, Smiley Garcia*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Sleep*, Shannon*, The Mountain Song*, Release Me*, Love Her With a Feeling.

Set Three: Roses Are Free, Chicken Strut, The Leader, The Thrill Is Gone, Black Gang Coffee, Whatever*, Sample in a Jar, Take a Rest*.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Day two of The core 4 CD celebration, and though a little less crazy than the previous night, it was another fun show as we offered ourselves as the "Mofro" alternative to the evening. Barbee was back with a new model, Cestra Winslow, and a cool cat suit earning stares from anyone in the vicinity (see below). She's so cool! Thanks again to Melinda, Dan and Joe for the fun! Let's do it again soon, eh?

Friday, May 20th, 2005 - Tanqueray's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Chicken Strut, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Strobe Light*, Wolfman's Brother, FYF*, Love Comes Easy*, Born Under a Bad Sign, Out There*.

Set Two: Name That Show*, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing>Cardova, The Thrill Is Gone, Release Me*, Smiley Garcia*, Shannon*, Bonnie Lopez*, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin'>Sleep*.

Set Three: Drink Heavily*, Mellow*, Everybody's Right*, The Mountain Song*, Stir It Up, I Got*, I Wanna Be Sedated, What's Wrong With You*$.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron only, with help.
Notes - Celebrating the 3rd CD release, free, for 2 full nights during the Florida Music Festival, The core 4 return to the downtown underground in grand fashion. With so many music industry types walking around downtown for the festival, we felt we made our musical statement well and offered a safe and comfortable haven from the hectic pace above as good times were had by all. Kudos to John and Kevin, representing The funki extremely well with their energy and spirit, and an extra shout for Grateful Doug and Carrie, a surprise visit from some of the original funki! Also, the infamous Barbee Cain (on her best behavior!) presented Shemia as only she can and came out with some incredible pics (see below). No matter how long we stay away, (we last played here on 6/5/04!), Tanqueray's always feels like home, and Melinda, Dan and Joe have EVERYTHING to do with that! (We love you guys!)

Friday, May 13th, 2005 - The Artisan Inn - DeLand, FL

Set One: Chicken Strut$, Love Comes Easy*$, When the Circus Comes$.

Set Two: Ron's Blues**, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing>Cardova, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Strobe Light*, Smiley Garcia*, Bonnie Lopez*, The Leader, Roll*, FYF*, Whatever*.

$a short set w/o Ron, running WAY late. (He got pulled over!)
*U.f.O.'s.
**improved about his troubles getting to the show.
$$Ron only, with help, including a verse by Rickey Dickens.
Notes - Well, it was The core 3 for a bit there, and we regret the lateness of our start, but our friends here in DeLand are the best, (thanks, Chris!), dancing the night away as we brought the house down in true funki fashion, including the return of The Aquarium! We missed you guys!!

Thursday, May 5th, 2005 -
A Cinqo de Mayo Jambando @ Hard Rock Live, Universal Studios, CityWalk
with Sonar, Mobius, & Snack Daddy plus live art by Barbee Cain

Set: Everybody's Right*, Sleep*, Smiley Garcia*, Bonnie Lopez*, Name That Show*, Run*$, FYF*, Out There*.

*U.f.O.'s.
$lost Mojo for a bit, then Ron at the end.
Notes - The core 4 took part in a special Cinqo de Mayo Jambando, marking our EIGHTH Hard Rock Live appearance (but who's counting anymore, right?) With a special surprise live body art performance by Barbee Cain, Jambando stays true to form bringing the art, the music and the fans together for a magical evening. Snack Daddy kicked it off with a strong set of orignal music, wearing Mexican sombreros in honor of the occasion. They were also responsible for bringing Barbee to the show, since she found herself displaced, (infamously barred from the Orlando Museum of Art for displaying art... funny, eh?) During the first set, she debuted "Femme Fatale", a tribute to Josephine Baker with the beautiful Schemia Rowan modelling, (and later graced us by continuing work on it during our set.) Mobius brought their moody and powerful jams to the stage next and warmed the crowd up nicely for some funkUs, as we treated fans to a CD preview of our upcoming release, "free", (a little out of order, though... What can we say? We were distracted!!) Then it was Sonar's turn to kick on the improv jams in true jamband fashioned, joined by Pete Orenstein, formerly of Kynda, which was a treat for us all. Jambando does it again!!

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005 - The Martini Club - Dunedin, FL

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Caldonia, Fever, Chicken Strut, Strobe Light*, FYF*, Release Me*, When the Circus Comes, Smiley Garcia*, Sleep*, Turn On Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Mellow*, Look-A-Py-Py, The Leader, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Whatever*, Out There*, Love Her With A Feeling, Shannon*, Everybody's Right*, The Mountain Song*, Wolfman's Brother, I Got*, Roll*, Love Comes Easy*, I Wanna Be Sedated, What's Wrong With You*$.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Ron only, with help including Nancy on the flute.
Notes - The core 4's first official West Coast appearance! We had a modest but great & receptive crowd who really seemed to dig the flavor rock... They were dancing and grooving all night long! We even had a surprise flute join in at the end of the night, (and we thought we were just hearing things, which was totally possible...) After our first taste, we're looking to do this some more! Kudos to Ted Freed of Rising Jupiter for having us and providing a great time with some cool people and thanks to Chris, the owner, for being one of the laid back and cool ones... and HUGE thanks to Alex and Katrina for making the drive and representing The funki!

Saturday, March 26th, 2005 -
The 3rd Annual Spring Jambando @ Wall St. Plaza

gig cancelled due to weather...

Notes - Not again!! Rained out twice in one month? Well, we'll just have to remember the immortal words of Ziggy Marley, commenting as his show was rained out at Universal Studios one year, "Don't curse the da rain, mon. Rain is GOOD..."

Friday, March 18th, 2005 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Shannon*, Mellow*, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, When the Circus Comes$, Bonnie Lopez*, Love Comes Easy*, Strobe Light*, Born Under a Bad Sign, Turn On Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Chicken Strut/The Mayor Song, Smiley Garcia*, The Leader, The Mountain Song*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, FYF*, Love Her With A Feeling, Sleep*, Bouncing Around The Room>First Tube>Whatever*, I Wanna Be Sedated.

*U.f.O.'s.
$w/o Ron, changing a string.
Notes - It'd been 3 months since The core 4 played our home venue, and our much anticipated return (and first appearance of the year) appropriately marked the 5th anniversary of gigging at Kitty's, the place where we've been growing and developing our sound since the turn of the millenium. We played a heartfelt show with fond memories in a sort of career retrospective playing some of our favorite jams born in this venue, including a nod to The Mayor (who couldn't attend, but sent his love.) And, of course, many shots were consumed. 5 years and 5000 shots later, funkUs is still what's "growing on" at Kitty O'Shea's...

Wednesday, March 9th, 2005 - The Central Florida Fairgrounds

gig cancelled due to weather...

Notes - AGAIN!! This is our 2nd attempt at playing The Central Florida Fair, the last attempt being EXACTLY two years ago! We just can't seem to get that funki fun fair kickin'!! Ah, well... next time???

Friday, March 4th, 2005 - "Kidneypalooza" @ Will's Pub
Friends of funkUs with Snack Daddy, Mecca Nism, & Troubled Children

Set: Tales of Brave Ulysses, Hot 'Lanta, Turn On Your Lovelight, Third Stone from the Sun, Shakedown Street, Smoke Two Joints.

Notes - It's been a while since we did a proper Friends of funkUs show, but we put the call out for a good cause, in support of our friend Alex who needs a kidney. The result was a VERY well received "stealth" appearance of the Jambando All-Stars, including Tony Hume of the recently disbanded Kynda and Ryan Walsh and RasTrent from Bluelegs. It was an interesting night of music with our friends in Snack Daddy, (thanks for the use of the backline, guys!), and new friends in Mecca Nism and Troubled Children, featuring SSA scenesters Michele Lane and Chuck Culbertson. The evening's host and comedian, Kevin, was a trip, as well! Great fun was had by all, and kudos to Kelly for putting it all together!

Sunday, February 13th, 2005 - Jambando Sundayz @ Slingapours
with Mohave

Set: Whatever*, The Leader, The Beer Is Gone**, Release Me*, The Mountain Song*, Wolfman's Brother, Chicken Strut/The Mayor Song, FYF*, Bonnie Lopez*, Sleep*, Turn On Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin', When the Circus Comes, Everybody's Right*, What's Wrong With You*$.

*U.f.O.'s.
**improv alternate version of "The Thrill Is Gone".
$Ron only, with help.
Notes - I really can't remember the last time The core 4 had so much fun playing to under 10 people in a room, but fun was most certainly had! (I can almost name everyone that was there, but that would be just too depressing...) Huge thanks to Mohave for sticking it out with us and putting on a great show, causing us to do the same. Old friends and a few new ones, including Alex and Jamie at the bar, made this intimate gathering feel special and very much worth it all. (We may have had a little too much fun at the competing band's expense down the street, but that's the way it goes sometimes, eh? Sweetbox rocks!) Thanks all! We had a blast, and can't wait to do it all again... with more people! (The venue is great! Sundays are hard...) Kudos to Jambando for trying to make things happen downtown, and hopefully word will spread about this quality venue and the great music being played there every week. I'll be there to support!

Saturday, January 29th, 2005 -
Sunshine Daydream Festival @ Kate O'Brien's
with Toni Brown & Tom Constanten, Crazy Fingers, Bluelegs & Mobius

Set: Mellow*, FYF*, Bonnie Lopez*, Friend O'The Devil, Cumberland Blues, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Release Me*, Ripple**, Brown Eyed Women, Love Comes Easy*, Sleep*, Everybody's Right*, Smiley Garcia*, Turn On Your Lovelight.

*U.f.O.'s.
**Ron only.
Notes - What Orlando needs are more Deadhead gatherings... like this one! The core 4 helped kick off the area's first Sunshine Daydream Festival, presented by Jam 'Til Dawn, with our some of our great friends from around the state. The music was incredible with Crazy Fingers from South Florida stealing the show with their perfect harmonies and beautiful renditions of classic Dead. The high point of the evening was when TC sat in with them, bringing it to a whole new level and completing the moment with a romping "Sugar Magnolia", (which just so happens to include the words "Sunshine Daydream" in the song!) Kudos to the Daytona funki for hanging and adding to the spirit as only they can, and it always great to see seminal funki Alan and his "gang" out. We're always impressed to see a crowd singing along with the words to our songs! Thanks for the good times, peeps!!

Friday, January 21st, 2005 - WPRK 91.5FM - Rollins College, Winter Park, FL

Songs played on air: Everybody's Right*, FYF*, Bonnie Lopez*, Love Comes Easy*, Smiley Garcia*.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Congratulations to WPRK 91.5FM's Dave Plotkin, the new holder of the Guiness World Record for the longest continuous broadcast on the radio by a single DJ! 110 hours!! The core 4 was there when he broke the record at 106 hours, along with WESH NBC News Channel 2's Bill Shafer and a roomful of cheering supporters. Then we got to play to try and keep him awake for just 4 more hours. I hope we helped! It sure was fun, so Kudos to WPRK's local music director, Selena Moshell, for letting us be a part of Guiness World Record history! Cool, eh? Man, I have to say he looked pretty ragged when I shook his hand, (after 106 hours awake, who wouldn't?), but he did it! Congrats, Dave!!

Saturday, January 15th, 2005 -
Jambando @ Hard Rock Live, Universal Studios, CityWalk
with jUNKIE RUSH, Florganism, & Russ Gaspard & The Grind

Notes - The core 4 took part in another Jambando, marking our SEVENTH Hard Rock Live appearance, and this turned out to be one of the best Jambando line-ups yet, a monster guitar showcase for almost 600 new fans. This was definitely a different crowd for all of us, each band earning a slew of new fans. Russ Gaspard returned with his debut Jambando performance with The Grind, highlighting his songwriting and guitarmanship. (It's so great to see you back, Russ!) Then Florganism took us to dimensions unseen with their powerful, spacey jams. We brought everyone back to earth with some crazy moshing that even had Ron dancing onstage, (what a sight!), and jUNKIE RUSH just absolutely killed. It was a powerful bill that we'll definitely have to recreate again. Hooray for Jambando!

Notes - I can't think of a better start to a New Year for The core 4! The spirits were high before the first band even began as we set up for Bing Futch's "21st Century Happening", (sure to catch on!), featuring Kelly Muniz painting live and National Slam competitor Dani-O and her spoken word poetry, as well as a video presentation by Bing himself. Dani-O kicked off the night with the beginning of her 3 part tale with Snack Daddy supplying a nice groove, (complete with didgeridoo!), Then they officially took the stage with their surprisingly heavy rockin' set, then changing it up with some Duran Duran (cool!) and some acid jazz joined by Ron plus Bunky and Bing of Mohave at the end. Dig it! (Dani-O continued to begin each band's set, finishing with a funkUs jam.) When Mohave killed the room full of appreciative fans with one of the best sets I've seen from them, paving the way for a strong funkUs set, including an inspired Ramones cover, with a very appreciative crowd as we played well past closing. Amazing fun for our debut performance at The Back Booth, and a very hopeful start to the New Year! Thanks to Bing and Mohave for such a great time, and we look forward to the next Happening! Look out for it!
