*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Orange County Convention Center technical staff threw this annual get-together of family and friends. Techies everywhere, (you could tell by all of the equipment). Let's have a moment of silence for Harley the Pig, who gave his life so that we BBQ revelers could revel in his smoked goodness... Mmmm... That'll do, pig. That'll do. And thus was the last gig of 2000 for funkUs. See you next year!

Notes - The core 4 at the last Kitty O'Shea's gig of 2000. Big kudos to Rob the bartender for bringing us into his home, and allowing us to make it into our home, and to the rest of the staff, Joe, Leslie, Todd and Will who always help keep it interesting. We'll see you next year...

*U.f.O. Notes - Still in the spirit of the season, we made an appearance in Winter Park with a good cause for the kids, our buddy Shay's 2nd annual Toys for Tots show. Jim "Mad Dog" Mahoney and Chris Raynor were on hand for an unplugged evening with funkUs.

*U.f.O.'s.
#German heavy metal Christmas carols.
Notes - Adam's back and not a moment too soon as the unpredictable wheel of funkUs continues to turn. With the spirit of Christmas upon us, we learned some new tunes and got inspired by German heavy metal Christmas carols from a band named Roten Rosen, also known for the LP, "Never Mind the Hosen, Here's Roten Rosen". A little much, maybe, but hey, it's Christmas. The economy's booming and there are so many cool toys out there. Get excited, people!

Saturday, November 25th, 2000 - Renaissance Hotel Ballroom$
Tom & Eden's Wedding Day... FINALLY!!

Set: Let the Good Times Roll, Squeeze Box, Stray Cat Strut, What Would You Say, Turn on Your Lovelight, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Wolfman's Brother, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Friend O'The Devil, Birds of a Feather, Bouncing Around the Room, Jump 'n' Jivin', Feelin' Alright**>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Hard To Handle#, Llama#, How Blue Can You Get, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, Shannon*##.

$Eric Charles sitting in on the drums for Adam.
*U.f.O.'s.
**Dave hand his guitar to Jager brother, Steve Souders.
#Groom Tommy drives the bus with Ron on bass.
##"Shannon" is replaced with "Eden", ending with "...is neat 'cause she's my wife." in honor of the new marriage.
Notes - Thus ended the longest booked gig in Ron & Dave history. 5 or 6 years ago, Tom and Eden always said they would have us play at their wedding, but who knew then how LONG that would be, or that we would be in a totally different band? funkUs is not a wedding band, nor we aspire to be one, but a definite exception was made in this case for many reasons, the main one being that this was not a typical wedding which was said on more than one occasion. On such a joyful occasion with so many good people in the room, friends became family and family became friends. The music drew us together and love made it all possible. We rose to the occasion with a marathon 2 1/2 hour set of 27 songs. Kudos to Tom and Eden for the party, and hopefully the vibe created will last forever.

Friday, November 24th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's$

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Friend O'The Devil, Stray Cat Strut, What Would You Say, Ain't Nobody's Business, Turn on Your Lovelight>Got My Mojo Workin'.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Ain't No Sunshine, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Southbound, Hey Joe**, Little Wing>Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, Smiley Garcia*, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Shannon*, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Texas Flood, Strobe Light*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Three: Sexx Laws, Hit the Bricks*, Love Comes Easy*, Shannon*, Sample in a Jar, Hey Bartender, Bouncing Around the Room, Strobe Light*$$.

$Eric Charles sitting in on the drums for Adam.
*U.f.O.'s.
**Impromptu jam with lyrics about Joe the bartender and Jagermeister.
$$Unfinished jam. I hate when that happens...
Notes - A welcome return to old friend Eric Charles filling in for the vacationing Adam. (The last time he donned his funkUs garb was March 13th, 1999). What with Tom & Eden having a little pre-party the day before the Big Day, (more on that later), and the place crawling with Dave's five cousins seeing him play for the first time in seventeen years AND his two sisters, (Cheryl in from Chicago and Selena's first funkUs experience), the spirit of friends and family abounded, so it's a good thing we had a drummer who could step up to the funkUs challenge with so little preparation. Whew! Another happy funkUs Friday for all.

Friday, November 17th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Caldonia, Fever, Chicken Strut, Friend O'The Devil, Jump 'n' Jivin', Look-A-Py-Py, Stray Cat Strut, Sample in a Jar.

Set Two: Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, Smiley Garcia*, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Shannon*, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Texas Flood, Strobe Light*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Three: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, I Got*$, Hit the Bricks*, Hope*, Love Comes Easy*, The Leader, Icarus*, Birds of a Feather.

*U.f.O.'s.
$Theme from "Jaws" teases.
Notes - In-between antibiotics, The Chronic 4 of funkUs showed some signs of recovery with a highly energetic evening. Other than that, I can't remember a thing. Must've been the Nyquil...

Wednesday, November 15th, 2000 - One-Eyed Jack's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Travellin' South, Friend O'The Devil, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Ron's Blues**, Look-A-Py-Py, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Stir It Up, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Mellow*, Smiley Garcia*, Love Comes Easy*, Hit the Bricks*, Hope*, Roll*, Strobe Light*, I Got*, Mustang Sally$, Icarus*.

Set Three: You Got Me Runnin'>Down Home Blues>You Got Me Runnin', What Would You Say, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Shannon*, Birds of a Feather$$, Wolfman's Brother, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube#.

*U.f.O.'s.
**Improvised blues in A. Superfly Pimp Daddy on the side on Harp.
$Agreed to play after much negotiation...
$$Ron breaks a string, and with a quick guitar switch, he's back by the first chorus. What a pro!
#with 2001: A Space Oddessy teases.
Notes - Downtown again as The Chronic 4, featuring The Broncial Brothers, Dave and Mojo, and also The Tired Twosome, Ron and Adam. Okay, so we were sick and sloppy and downtown was dead, but we stuck to our guns and had 'em dancing all night long, (sometimes begrudgingly, but there will be no "Brown Eyed Girl", and no Indigo Girls, either!) The lovely Melinda was beeming as always and comforted us with her motherly ways, and the Big Man was on call, so we manged to make it through the night just fine. It can be harrowing, sometimes, when there's no fuel to kick in the afterburners...

Friday, November 3rd, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Friend O'The Devil, Look-A-Py-Py, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Mellow*, Smiley Garcia*, Love Comes Easy*, Hit the Bricks*, Hope*, Roll*, Strobe Light*, I Got*, Icarus*, Shannon*, Birds of a Feather.

Set Three: I Ain't Drunk, Wolfman's Brother, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Shadows in the Rain>Shadows Jam, Sample In A Jar, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - None of the extended funki family this week, so it was back to the core 4 with a special treat: an all original set, (plus the requested Phish at the end). Not something that happens a lot, but judging from the crowd reaction, it's probably something we should be doing more often. As Mojo put it, "Nobody left!" We recorded the evening for posterity and giggles, and we even made the effort to start earlier so we could play more, (not that it worked, but hey, we tried). Lots of new faces again this week, (largely due to The Jam Database, methinks), something we definitely dig. Keep spreading the word, people! The funkUs grows on...

Wednesday, October 25th, 2000 - One-Eyed Jack's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Smiley Garcia*, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Built for Comfort, Stray Cat Strut, Shannon*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, How Blue Can You Get, Love Comes Easy*, Strobe Light*, Friend O'The Devil, Sexx Laws, I Got*.

Set Three: Look-A-Py-Py, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, Hit the Bricks*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Chicken Strut, Blues is My Religion, The Leader, Hope*, Blister in the Sun>Kiss Off>Gone Daddy Gone>Blister in the Sun, Birds of a Feather, Nashville Cats.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - After an extended break, we found ourselves downtown again, (always a big, mushy thanks to the lovely Melinda), this time as a five-piece with Jim Mahoney, (that's two in a row for "Mad Dog"). It may be my imagination, but I think people are starting to get used to us. I've been of the opinion that we're a bunch of weird cats musically which the downtown scene has had trouble accepting, but Mojo insists that those who stayed, stayed for a long time. (I could use some feedback here.) There was some dancing, mostly listening, just not quite the caliber of the funkUs Friday at Kitty's mayhem. We endeavor to make the two world meet, though, smiling all the way, because we're the ones always having the fun.

Friday, October 20th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Smiley Garcia*, Look-A-Py-Py, Built for Comfort, Red House, Love Comes Easy*, Crosscut Saw, Shadows in the Rain, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Little Wing>Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Strobe Light*, Friend O'The Devil, I Got*.

Set Three: Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Mustang Sally, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Hit the Bricks*.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - As a five-piece, it was a welcome return to fellow funki, Jim "Mad Dog" Mahoney, who felt the spirit as the funkUs grew this evening, another grand evening had by all. We had a hard time shutting down, (sorry, Rob), playing right up to 2 AM. See what happens when we miss a week? The fans are hungry, the players are hungry but there's nothing left but to wait for the next gig. It hurts sometimes...

Saturday, October 7th, 2000 - Be-Xtreme Sports Outfitters
Grand Opening Celebration

Set One: Roll*, Smiley Garcia*, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Shannon*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Wolfman's Brother, Little Wing, Love Comes Easy*, Low Rider, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, The Leader, Feeling Alright**, Take A Rest***, Look-A-Py-Py, Stir It Up, Strobe Light*, Sample in a Jar.

*U.f.O.'s.
**Mojo broke yet another string, but finishes the song.
***w/o Mojo (emergency string change) and Adam uses his hands, a la John Bonham.
Notes - Kudos to our friend and legal confidant, Peggy, for having us be a part of the grand opening of Winter Park's newest extreme sporting goods store, Be-Xtreme Sports Outfitters. Free food (including alligator!), free booze, dancing children (Kratts everywhere), impressive acrobats, giveaways and funkUs... what a combination! Also of note, proud Daddy Dave brought out 5 year old Emily for her first full funkUs experience, and she even helped load the equipment. A roadie is born. Papa couldn't have been prouder.

Friday, October 6th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Smiley Garcia*, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Southbound, Love Comes Easy*, Little Wing, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Wolfman's Brother, Hope*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Mellow*, Hit the Bricks*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Friend O'The Devil, Strobe Light*, Shannon*, Sample in a Jar.

Set Three: Roll*, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, I Got*, The Leader, Icarus*, Birds of a Feather.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Back to the core 4, and a refocus on our priorities as we put forth our best, including ten U.f.O.'s, Unidentified funkUs Originals, (kudos to Rich, the "funkUs!" guy, for penning that phrase). Also, Dave the cat with a very rare appearance in shorts. Hey, the laundry needs to get done sometime.

Friday, September 29th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Fever, Friend O'The Devil, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Party 'Til The Money Runs Out>Iko Iko>Party 'Til The Money Runs Out, Look-A-Py-Py, Love Comes Easy*#.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Shannon*, Wolfman's Brother, Honey Hush, Hot Tamales Baby, Dealt A Queen**, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Ain't Nobody's Business, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube.

Set Three: Sexx Laws, Strobe Light*, Been Down So Long, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse.

*U.f.O.'s.
#Mojo broke a string... AGAIN! (The man is a bass-thumpin' MONSTER...)
**U.f.O. re-debut, (last played 5/3/1999).
Notes - Well, we had to miss moe. in Gainesville, (but from what I understand, we were there in spirit... and so were our T-shirts!), but the unfortunate, moe.-less funki witnessed the return of The Iceman and another great funkUs Friday in full swing! We haven't had the chance to play with busyman Chris Raynor in a while (last time was June 16th) and it's only the second time he's played at Kitty's (May 18th was the first), but it's always a good time and having him back gives us the opportunity to play such favorites as Hot Tamales Baby and more blues for the soul. Also, we've reached back (in preparation of the upcoming CD release) and dusted off some of our first songs. Keep listening for the new material as the ever-growing funkUs continues...

Friday, September 22nd, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Tore Down, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Fever, Southbound, Pride & Joy, Low Rider, Look-A-Py-Py, Friend O'The Devil, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Mellow*, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Love Comes Easy*, What Would You Say, The Thrill Is Gone, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Hit the Bricks*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse.

Set Three: Sexx Laws, Blister in the Sun>Kiss Off>Gone Daddy Gone>Blister in the Sun, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube, I Got*.

*U.f.O.'s.

Friday, September 15th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Fever, Friend O'The Devil, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Love Comes Easy*, Look-A-Py-Py**.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Sexx Laws, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Strobe Light*, Hit the Bricks*, Smiley Garcia*, What Would You Say, Sing a Simple Song>Tube>First Tube>Tube.

Set Three$: Birds of a Feather, Chicken Strut, I Got*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

*U.f.O.'s.
**Tow truck run ending. (This set ended prematurely due to the "TOW TRUCK!" call from Mojo, to which the whole band runs outside to drive their cars to saftey; right in front of the lingering tow truck man who failed to nab one of them. Close one. And to think, it's all Phfffft! Doug's fault...)
$featuring Bongo Willy.
Notes - Though delayed a bit for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2000 Olympics, we managed to have another great night of music, (and more new faces thanks to The Jam Database, an awesome national gig database from jambands.com.) The sets felt very enjoyable and the response very positive, as the funkus managed to infect new fans from as far as Omaha, Nebraska and Seattle, Washington. Also worth noting, the absence of "Hope" was due to the request of those who have found the true meaning of the song, but we'll only do that once, people. We just can't condone this kind of superstitious behavior, you know...

Friday, September 8th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Can't Take It With You, Fever, Feelin' Alright>Walk on the Wild Side>You Can't Always Get What You Want>Feelin' Alright, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Friend O'The Devil, Look-A-Py-Py, Love Comes Easy*, Little Wing>Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Roll*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Hit the Bricks*, Smiley Garcia*, Strobe Light*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Shannon*, Sample in a Jar, I Got*.

Set Three: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Sexx Laws, Icarus*, What Would You Say**, How Blue Can You Get**, Tube>First Tube#>Tube, Lifeboy##.

*U.f.O.'s.
**Pete on harmonica.
#with 2001: A Space Oddessy teases.
##Ron and Dave only.
Notes - Back home after a Labor Day Weekend getaway, (and thanks to 4:20 for filling in for us last week.) We were funkin', bluesin' and rockin' all night long, and lovin' every minute of it. I'm seeing lots of new faces enjoying the vibe. I think (...hope) we've created a monster, and it's starting to get loose, people. I just can't wait 'til next week. It seems so far away...

Friday, August 25th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Flip Flop & Fly, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Fever, Look-A-Py-Py, Smiley Garcia*, Shadows in the Rain, Shannon*, Little Wing>Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Friend O'The Devil, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Wolfman's Brother, Strobe Light*, Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, Love Comes Easy*, Chicken Strut, Sexx Laws, I Got*.

Set Three$: Mellow*, Hit the Bricks*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin'$$, What Would You Say$$**, The Leader, Sample in a Jar, Icarus*, Tube>First Tube>Tube**.

*U.f.O.'s.
$featuring Bongo Willy.
$$Steve Mason on the bongo, no Willy.
**Pete on harmonica.
Notes - The ranks of The funki are growing and showing the love in many ways, like Shannon (yes, she's neat) and Angela who designed two special funkUs shirts to show their pride and love for the music. (At least, that's what I like to think.) We were deeply touched and moved (and thoroughly surprised!) by the effort and thought put onto these two beautiful masterpieces. The shirts looked great, too. Ahh, I get a warm, tingly feeling just thinking about it. I can almost smell the love from here...

Friday, August 18th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Jump & Jivin', Fever, Chicken Strut, Smiley Garcia*, Stray Cat Strut, Love Comes Easy*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Stir It Up, Hit the Bricks*, Friend O'The Devil, Look-A-Py-Py, Strobe Light*, Mustang Sally, Shannon*, Tube>First Tube>Tube, Hope*.

Set Three$: Roll*, I Got*, Birds of a Feather, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Farmhouse>No Woman No Cry>Beast of Burden>So Lonely>Farmhouse, What Would You Say$$, Sexx Laws, The Leader, Icarus*, Sample in a Jar**.

*U.f.O.'s.
$featuring Bongo Willy.
$$Steve Mason on the bongo, no Willy.
**Dave Van Houtte rap.
Notes - Another jam-packed Friday evening full of fun, family and spirit (and the debut of the funkUs stickers!), Kitty's was rockin' all night long. Dave's cousins from Nashville, former bandmates from Pitch Blue Jam and Donna Rice all came in for their first funkUs fixes, and the reports from the trenches say we had an extraordinary night of playing, (though when Trina asked me what I felt like after a night like that, I said, "Like what?") The crowd gives and we give back. That's all I know.

Friday, August 11th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Fever, Look-A-Py-Py, Friend O'The Devil, Stray Cat Strut, The Thrill is Gone, What Would You Say.

Set Two: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Strobe Light*, Hit the Bricks*, Birthday Bump 'n' Grind, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Shannon*, Turn on Your Lovelight.

Set Three$: Chicken Strut, I Got*, Smiley Garcia*, Love Comes Easy*, Wolfman's Brother, The Leader, Sexx Laws, Texas Flood, Tube>First Tube>Tube$$, Take A Rest**.

*U.f.O.'s.
$featuring Bongo Willy.
$$Steve Mason on the bongo, no Willy.
**Ron and Dave only.
Notes - Another fun-for-all Friday at Kitty's, featuring the debut of the new funkUs T-shirts! (I don't know why people get the idea that T-shirts are free, though. I'll have to ask Rich, the "funkUs!" guy.) In any case, we had dancing, screaming and yelling, drinking, even a birthday (no birthday suit, though)... just an all out party that's fast becoming the norm for these Friday gigs. Even sick boy Adam managed to have a great time and make it through the night.

Thursday, August 10th, 2000 - Barbarella's
with Ineptune & Nectar

Showcase Set: Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Strobe Light*, Shannon*, Love Comes Easy*, Smiley Garcia*, I Got*, Darlin' Darlin' Darlin', Hit the Bricks*, Icarus*, Hope*, Tube>First Tube>Tube.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Kudos to "Friends of the Underground" and our friends at where2groove.com (now defunct) for bringing us to UTOPIA, an experience that features an evolving landscape of sights, sounds, and feelings, featuring live DJs and bands all night long. As the kickoff band on opening night, we came out firing with a mostly original set that was well-received with the sparse crowd. It was HOT, and I'm not just talking about the music. It felt like a great introduction to a new music scene for us, though. "Welcome to the land of Orlando Underground Original Music, funkUs. You've arrived." Oh, and Ineptune still rocks!

**no Mojo (broke a string!), Big Worm on background vocals.
$featuring Jim "Mad Dog" Mahoney from The Houseshakers on guitar.
$$featuring Bongo Willy.
Notes - Dave "the cat" Mann's 30th Birthday celebration! I'm just glad we celebrated with the music instead of the Jagermeister or the bathroom was liable to get a new tenant. Jim Mahoney made the trip to sit in as an honorary member of funkUs (and loan Dave an amp), and the funki showed much love and appreciation, (with Big Worm doing what he does best, of course). Even Joe the bartender was there! Chalk one up for another great time at Kitty's. Feel the love grow... smell the love. It smells so good.

$without Ron.
Notes - Another rockin' Friday with Jagermeister for everyone! Old faces and new lit up the evening in the true spirit of the funki. I suppose we have to apologize for our behavior sometime... but not right now...

Friday, July 21st, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Let the Good Times Roll, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Fever, Friend O'The Devil, Look-A-Py-Py, Shannon*, Stir It Up, Mustang Sally, Southbound, What Would You Say.

Set Three: Sample In A Jar, Strobe Light*, Chicken Strut, You Got Me Runnin', Icarus*, Tube, Sexx Laws, Birds of a Feather.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Man, it's good to be back! It's like getting the feeling back in your hand after it's been numb a while. The spirit flowed as the children danced bringing smiles to everyone's faces. The arousing smell of music and beer... the freedom and the happy people... the sense of home... and kudos to (Phhhhhfffft!) Doug for infecting new souls with the funki, and man, did they got a heavy dose or what? Yellin' and screamin', jumpin' up and toe touchin', and, of course, the Big Worm... Bartender, I'll have what those guys are having...

Notes - Downtown as a four-piece again. Still wary, still no "Brown Eyed Girl". It looks like it'll be a while before we'll be back, (nothing to do with us, of course. They're just booked solid.) Ahh, downtown, we hardly knew ye.

Wednesday, June 28th, 2000 - One-Eyed Jack's

Set One: Ron's Choice Bflat Shuffle/Can't Take It With You, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Little Wing, Cissy Strut>Cardova>It's Your Thing Jam>Cardova, Drink That Bottle Down, Turn on Your Lovelight, What Would You Say.

Set Three: Mellow*, Strobe Light*, Wolfman's Brother, Low Rider, Chicken Strut, Hope*, Icarus*, Birds of a Feather>Tube.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Downtown as a four-piece. You know, I think we scare the mainstream crowd a bit with all of the not-easily-recognized songs in our sets. Those who haven't ever seen us before seem to be a little wary, but I think I like it like that. Listen and learn, people! There will be no "Brown Eyed Girl" tonight...

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - (Four-piece) It's sad to say, but it was our last regular Thursday at Kitty's, and with most of the Phishheads in Atlanta, it was a somber evening... but the groove was there. Ah, Joe... we'll miss the shamelessness most of all. Fear not, fellow music lovers, funkUs will continue to play EVERY FRIDAY starting July 21st, and we may play on a stray Thursday here and there for old time's sake, (and many Jager shots).

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Back as a five-piece, Clermont got to experience us and vice-versa, thanks to long-time friends, "Uncle" Joey and "Aunt" Leslie Eberline (of Baby Blues). Thanks to them, though we may have initially felt like fish out of water, we couldn't have felt more at home. Watch out for Clermont, folks. It's coming on strong, and with such good feeling circulating, it's bound to become a home away from home. Also, kudos to Steve, Michelle, Tom and Eden for being so far out.

Set Three: Roll*, Shadows in the Rain, Chicken Strut, Heavy Things, Hope*, Tube, Icarus*.

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - Fridays are rockin' at Kitty's! Perhaps it's time for a change... After all, where else can you find women who'll lick up burn cream off of Ron's arm?

Dave the cat shared in the spirit of the event with 4:20 as a guest guitarist during the final set.

*U.f.O.'s.
**Ron and Dave only.
Notes - Back to the four-piece for a bit, this taped evening had an inspired blues rendition of "I Got A Brand New Wagon", lost to the ages since the tape wasn't recording at the time. Maybe next time... (and the Phishy end to the evening was all Eden's doing).

Notes - Special thanks goes to The Great Historian, Nick Zito, for taping this five-pieced performance, or we would've never gotten this set list right.

*U.f.O.'s.
**U.f.O. debut.
***U.f.O., Ron and Dave only.
Notes - The downtown five-piece funkUs debut. It's great to be playing downtown again, thanks to the always wonderful and lovely Melinda. For the last set, we attempted to play an entire set of U.f.O. music (we kinda got sidetracked at the end of it) to see how it would go over with a fresh crowd. I think Mojo said something about a lead balloon, but I don't know. What did you think?

*U.f.O.'s.
Notes - A welcome reunion, Chris Raynor has returned to the ranks of the funkUs. We're in full force as a five-piece now for select shows, with more U.f.O.'s on the way. As our ranks increase (we aren't stopping here), the funkUs will of course continue to grow... as always.

*U.f.O.'s.

Notes - Whew! We almost lost the notes to this one, but still managed to loose a few other things this evening. We lost our minds, our sobriety... After all, it was 4/20...

Notes - After a couple of cancellations and out-of-town (or body) experiences, we're finally into the swing of this Thursday gig. Word is slowly spreading as the funkUs grows, and we feel right at home. Something to watch for: U.f.O.'s (Unidentified funkUs Originals) are secretly being played and debuted throughout our shows without any warning. Catch them if you can.

Friday, March 31, 2000 - Janie Mac's
Thursday, March 23, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's
Thursday, March 16th, 2000 - Kitty O'Shea's

Notes - We're back as a four-piece for now with a load of new material and have been a little too drunk to keep track of lists, so listed here above are the gigs we've played featuring some landmarks, including the first two installments of our regular Thursday night gigs at Kitty O'Shea's, and our introduction to Janie Mac's in the UCF area where the kids played pool while the teachers rocked. The funkUs continues to grow, (and I'll keep better track of the lists... hopefully).

Saturday, March 13th, 1999 - Spatz*

Set Three: Hot Tamales Baby**, Party 'Til The Money Runs Out>Bo Diddley>Party 'Til The Money Runs Out, Jump & Jivin', Dwarf Tossing***, Sweet Home Chicago.

*Eric Charles sitting in on the drums for Adam.
**special appearance by the Mysterious Commando trumpet player.
***you don't want to know. We don't even know...
Notes - Der Housenshaken evenink. This night was a reunion of sorts, dating as far back as 1990. With Eric Charles sitting in, we took a trip back to the infamous Sunday Night Blue Note Jam. The spirit of The Houseshakers, with Jim Mahoney and Jeff Willey, was with us as we recreated most of the "hits", including the likes of Caldonia, Crosscut Saw, Gots Ta Be Love, and Ron and Dave's classic, Sweet Home Chicago. It was way too much fun for one evening.

Notes - Okay, so it was Spring Break for Rollins College, but some of the local patrons at Spatz were really into it. It's a cool place with a fun-loving & drinking staff (You know who you are, Rodney). Thanks to Shana and Pete for making Spatz a happening shin-dig.

There are a few more gigs dating as far back as March or April 1998, but beginnings are always hazy and those shows are lost to the ages...
